Instrumentation & Infrastructure
The observatory is centred around an ALIX 2D2 embedded computer running Voyage Linux, a derivative of Debian Linux.
Each of the sensors is either linked directly to the computer or via other hardware. A combination of open source software and bespoke scripting is used to read, process and present data.
Every Two Minutes: A new image is captured, annotated and stored.
Every Ten Minutes: All data is captured for the sensors and cameras. This is then processed, graphed and uploaded to the web host.
Currently, it is a manual process to upload images captured by the DVR motion detector - work on how best to automate this is currently being investigated!
The following software and/or information has been used to setup the observatory and website. I would like to express my thanks to the authors who have kindly put it in the public domain.
